If a dermatitis involves the axillae or groin, it is more likely to be seborrheic dermatitis. If extensor surfaces such as forearms and shins are involved, atopic dermatitis is more likely. Both atopic dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis involve scalp and posterior auricular areas, although seborrheic dermatitis has large, yellowish scale; when severe, it characteristically extends down to the forehead and eyebrow areas
