DOMINO TRANSPLANT

Livers from patients with Maple syrup urine disease  and familial hypercholesterolemia may be donated to cirrhotic patients as they are structurally and functionally normal apart from an enzyme deficiency, which may be compensated by other body tissues to sustain function. Such transplants are known as domino transplants.
